You Are Invited to

The Columbia FiberArts Guild is presenting an Artists Market to showcase the work of 45 local artists. This exhibit includes wall art, 3 dimensional work and clothing. Some but not all items are for sale. Do come. You will not be disappointed. It will be amazing.

This piece has a slightly different focus.

I have added additional color and contrast in surface design. It has both machine and hand stitching. It reminds me of a walk on the beach at sunset.

Once again it is primarily painted canvas with a bit of hand dyed accent pieces.

This is one of my favorites to date.

Perhaps the value of working in a series with a consistent color palette.
One thought leads to another and a new fresh look appears from similar beginnings.

It's formed a a triptych, with three separate but very close sections. I love the addition of the beads and disks for an additional layer of interest.

This piece continues the work on canvas though much of the base layer is covered with other materials. It has been useful to stick with the canvases that were orange in tone and pull all sorts of materials that would work in the color frame. It is also interesting to mix the lines and details of the original canvases with other patterns. In this The center panel was striped. I added the hand stitching in the stripes and then continued these marks with quilting in the left side panel.

100 Days Project

100 Days Project is a simple creativity project 

that requires one thing, every day for 100 days.

This intrigued me on a number of levels. Though I realized I could be setting myself up for failure depending on how complex or not I designed the project for myself. For starters I wouldn't even be home for 100 days in a row. And I didn't want to make 100 things. So in the end my construct was as follows.

1. For each day I was home, I would work in The Lab (my nickname for my sewing studio.)
2. I would only use materials I had on hand.
3. Each piece I created would include hand stitching.
4. I would use as a base, canvases that I had painted in the last few years.
5. My work would be collage like.
6. I would experiment with all types of tools for mark making.

Rain or Shine

This years theme for the MIX body of work is Weather. What a fun idea. We all talk about weather continuously. What's it going to be today. Do I need my umbrella? Pants or skirt? Coat or sweater?

I chose to interpret this in two ways. The typical weather in my northern home and my southern place. Portland is rainy often; the desert rarely rains.

I developed the background cloth in Photoshop and printed it on an Epson printer. It was then divided into individual strips and separated for emphasis. The angles depict the slant of rain and sun rays. I fracture the puddles and the sun itself. These quilts take on a modern and minimal feel.

I once read that simplicity is the most difficult thing. It is. I produced three starts before my vision became clear. I am pleased with the result.
