This is a one. First, it's abstract and second, it's about one of my very favorite subjects, trees. Originally inspired by the trees of Oregon for which they are plentiful, it came to life with a challenge that originated at the Allison Inn. Drafted in Photoshop with a single image of a beloved tree, the composition was then abstracted. Look closely and see the five identical trees, increasing in size. Shades of green provide changing contrast. The asymmetrical framing gives it root, pun intended.. Looking at the closeup, provides a snippet of the shapes produced with the overlapping branches. Enjoy! Leave a comment if you like. <p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2oCJei2sWPcRoj-8bBCWl_qiFCwDq6PWJOkHmVlAeUYLOIlCiCUlp_5dWKxKIeg0PMHscoObHuhNGraP3PEwiVELv-Ce-2BUDk8pbfN6zf707pKk4LcIb_PfdfpSA55oY5rQsSWHdtiMlCnuJ65Vyicea8kDgQgqJjVcRWiiIfEhAjcQ0QvisZTVKrxBE/s741/Millar_Elaine%20Arbor%20Vitae%20web.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="741" data-original-width="600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2oCJei2sWPcRoj-8bBCWl_qiFCwDq6PWJOkHmVlAeUYLOIlCiCUlp_5dWKxKIeg0PMHscoObHuhNGraP3PEwiVELv-Ce-2BUDk8pbfN6zf707pKk4LcIb_PfdfpSA55oY5rQsSWHdtiMlCnuJ65Vyicea8kDgQgqJjVcRWiiIfEhAjcQ0QvisZTVKrxBE/w324-h400/Millar_Elaine%20Arbor%20Vitae%20web.jpg" width="324" /></a></div><br /> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs-ZVk51903CJJygeX0VMoBLk_VNfInzfZEhX62Lvcx3D1DwcggTjJc8Qz0evneDSWUd0hsNjpNepCUvDsVP4XueAJGSX3KfXqjHACnoRtN2u6nwh9ljka2O29ODRI9vNZkoYgtwTvIYRWjFW5NBg7U_2Uw2VkNltjSX5ksvX70XW3w6Nqy2L29r4gJVC5/s820/Millar_Elaine%20Arbor%20Vitae%20close%20up%20web.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="820" data-original-width="600" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs-ZVk51903CJJygeX0VMoBLk_VNfInzfZEhX62Lvcx3D1DwcggTjJc8Qz0evneDSWUd0hsNjpNepCUvDsVP4XueAJGSX3KfXqjHACnoRtN2u6nwh9ljka2O29ODRI9vNZkoYgtwTvIYRWjFW5NBg7U_2Uw2VkNltjSX5ksvX70XW3w6Nqy2L29r4gJVC5/w293-h400/Millar_Elaine%20Arbor%20Vitae%20close%20up%20web.jpg" width="293" /></a></div><p></p>

The way it illuminates the night sky, bearing witness to the entire spectrum of colors, is simply awesome, in the strictest sense of the word. This artwork depicts just that. You can buy a kit or scour your house for fun ribbons and baubles. My favorite was the addition of a focal point. I used a pearl to go with the polka dot ribbon that was on a holiday gift. Leather cording and beads anchor the ribbons. I love wearing this otherwise ordinary hat.<div><br /></div><div>Try it. Hey, that's fiber too! In a class called Collage Joy by Catherine Rains, our first assignment was to make 4 x 4 collages only sing neutrals. I love this palette and so enjoyed this. We are 8 women who challenge ourselves to create fiber art. We are exhibiting at the Lincoln City Cultural Center through the month of February. The work is amazing as each artist provides their own interpretation to a chosen theme. Variety is what makes this so interesting.<div><br /></div><div>Do yourself a favor and make a day trip to the beach and experience these works of art.<br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh2VmxLsNFnSMW1YMMSAaHhJ32Sgg8IMXgChV_pdadmG4g2-6WQ1O2kd06OZl0hzdsryy7_K_ltTh2qa0PZi0EWmAYyjbPixicRl0LIsj_kbcncvOzEXskXJHreLlcGgoxElVpDcd3YzIccmFc5F021V0DCDW0o3VQ6bEI3sGZgEopUxYnTUHssOXDdKg=s1200" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="883" data-original-width="1200" height="294" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh2VmxLsNFnSMW1YMMSAaHhJ32Sgg8IMXgChV_pdadmG4g2-6WQ1O2kd06OZl0hzdsryy7_K_ltTh2qa0PZi0EWmAYyjbPixicRl0LIsj_kbcncvOzEXskXJHreLlcGgoxElVpDcd3YzIccmFc5F021V0DCDW0o3VQ6bEI3sGZgEopUxYnTUHssOXDdKg=w400-h294" width="400" /></a></div><br /> <p></p></div>Elaine Millarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07391661681468074419noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-72178983974527473.post-46218745766030709682021-09-18T17:43:00.004-07:002021-09-18T17:44:38.554-07:00A Line...the Dot That Went for a WalkA Paul Klee quote that inspired my work. The followup to that class was another that required our use of that fabric to make an art quilt. To this point in my short quilting history, most of my work was blue. Any shade of blue would do but yes BLUE! </p><p>So I challenged myself to use all colors: the primaries, secondaries and yes even the tertiaries. So this is the work that I produced. The golden rule. I discovered that I like tertiary colors the best. But I never had much use for this quilt. I wasn't sure what I would ever do with it and so it lived in a pile for a long time. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimnmIjdS0kx2sDyAQnjNos1YNLa5V5BgtcFUJM15mfbzqA1UGItxLcwGwV0K40CLvHQ6lgA27jVub2sBxd-RWHylV-1Wxv88lDTJOcWyq2Aj8HhHPBYpl8_p8UPEpUozIeS8_WaetGfrso/s2048/IMG_0051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1525" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimnmIjdS0kx2sDyAQnjNos1YNLa5V5BgtcFUJM15mfbzqA1UGItxLcwGwV0K40CLvHQ6lgA27jVub2sBxd-RWHylV-1Wxv88lDTJOcWyq2Aj8HhHPBYpl8_p8UPEpUozIeS8_WaetGfrso/s320/IMG_0051.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>One day, I was inspired to make something new with it. I had an idea and so, boldly cut it up. Here it is in it's new life. What a transformation! I named this Dreaming in Hexicolor. It's 18 inches square.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm04EpuvUxjL-1uRfh66pWgPL2Yqq_c8roSb_PqKlC93fA9qzCerrbYhG64o9C5yP7zhvSYz9T4Xm3msdOgtm79r1q688mDWEMwAVw4EIxDVH0nl6XDdIgjZH00rY_fjl5rgcEyKsBwY59/s2048/Dreaming+in+Hexicolor.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2034" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm04EpuvUxjL-1uRfh66pWgPL2Yqq_c8roSb_PqKlC93fA9qzCerrbYhG64o9C5yP7zhvSYz9T4Xm3msdOgtm79r1q688mDWEMwAVw4EIxDVH0nl6XDdIgjZH00rY_fjl5rgcEyKsBwY59/s320/Dreaming+in+Hexicolor.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>

This quilt is a combination of painted canvas and hand dyed cloth, mounted on a deep brown linen. It is edge stitched for framing.
I love how the hand dyed fabrics along with the paint create a light spot on the center right.<br />
